In these findings, the researchers found that the fruits of the berry family, such as blueberries and strawberries may delay cognitive of aging, such as remembering, thinking and reasoning abilities of about 1.5 to 2.5 years.
Researchers measured the cognitive function of the 16,010 women in telephone interviews every two years for six years.
Women who ate half a cup of blueberries or two and a half cups of strawberries every week, shows that the brain has a better quality.
"We provide the first epidemiologic evidence regarding the berry can slow cognitive decline in elderly women," said study author from Brigham and Women's Hospital.
The author focuses his research on the key compounds in berries, anthocyanins are flavonoids, which can seep through the blood and into the brain tissue, particularly in the hippocampus, which is responsible for learning and memory.
